Kathmandu: The second edition of Mount Everest Fashion Runway, a fashion show taking place in the world’s highest altitude, concluded on Thursday.
The fashion show took place atop the Thonak Glaciers, near Cho Oyu base camp at an altitude of 5,500 meters. The show, billed as the “world’s most sustainable fashion show,” is aimed to raise awareness about the climate crisis and sustainable fashion, according to the organizers.
The Guinness Book of World Records has recognized the fashion show as the “highest altitude fashion show on land”.
This is the first time in history that an Italian Prince walked on a ramp in Nepal promoting ‘Made in Nepal’ design. The models along with the Prince of Tuscany started the trekking from Lukla on September 12 and reached the venue on September 22 for the highest altitude show. The show has created history on September 23 and now the team has started trekking back to Lukla.
The Everest region made international headlines when a village near it witnessed a coronavirus outbreak in June 2021. The region first recorded a coronavirus infection in April.
The fashion show is an indication that a sense of normalcy is finally returning in the region.
